6th grade forum

Well today I went to the 6th grade class from our school and talk to them about blue revolution and the importance of responsible fishing. I was very nervous and had been practicing what I was going to say for the entire weekend. But I feel really disappointed with myself. I made it interactive, I asked the kids questions and they were excited to answer them. And I also gave them a lot of facts for example I focused on three different species of fish: yellow fin tuna, red snapper and blue marlin. For each species I told them the age that they reach, the amount legs they lay, the amount of mercury they have, their size and whey they are fished. But I still feel unsatisfied. Even thought I manage to explain to them that middle age fish are the best to catch because the have already reproduce a couple of time and don't contain as much mercury, which was I topic I was strongly with and didn't know how to explain to others. I think that next time I need to connect more with my audience, have them feel that they are the teachers also and show more statics and facts from the power point that Enrique Ramirez from FECOP gave us.

The lesson of the day is that everyone learns form their experience and now that I have done two forums, one with help and the other one on my own, I have many ideas to improve. I'll hope that the next one is even better!

Next post will be about my meeting with my mentor Pascal on Wednesday! I hope we can catch up and I can tell him all the ideas that I have a show him the sketches from the two logos.

Bye for now :)

P.S. I will have the Spanish translation soon!

  1. Great job for getting up there and talking about your project. It sounds like you did everything as planned and that they learned something along the way. Looking back on it, how would you have connected more with them? Is there a way that you can ask them or their teacher for feedback?

  2. I asked a few kids and they said it was intresteting because they learned lots of new facts. When I was talking with Pascal last Wednesday in out meeting we both agreed that it's better when we have people that are actually interest in the topic that way we always have their attention and we feel like they are enjoying it.
