First Meeting!

Today will be the first Blue Revolution Meeting of the year! I'm excited but worried about the turn out...
^^^
That was me on Tuesday morning.
Well it turned out that it was only my mentor Pascal and I. Richard couldn't come and Miss Sarah and her Country Day representatives didn't show up either, even though they said they wanted to come and where talking about different events in which Blue Revolution can become a part of. Anyhow Pascal and I revised the power point presentation Enrique (Director from FECOP) gave us and shorten it. That way when we give out the presentation it's very precise and entertaining, however we I still need to take out some slides and modify others.
The stickers, well that is a matter in which we will have to stop and consider. Pascal and I talked about the steps to create the stickers and the prices and he suggested to ask with FECOP and see if they graphic design artist could digitize my designs and also print with the company in which FECOP prints. However I´m in the process of writing the email to send to them with the proposal. In the other hand Pascal said that the girl from Mr. Tom in Tamarindo could do the artwork into digital for free if we printed with her, but we are not sure and he will go talk to her about it. That way we have several options and choose the best one to create the stickers.
The next step is to fix the power point and get into with CEPIA and coordinate a date to go to the Colegio in Villareal or Cartagena. Then CEPIA would speak with the directors and see which time works best for them and for me. Also Pascal said he would like to attend to the first ones to give suggestions and then let me do them on my own. Mean while these are the things that I need to think about in order to make the presentation happen:
  • establish a date (soon!) There are only 3 more weeks left of this trimester and the I go to vacation and the third trimester will go by even faster than this one.
  • Fix the Power Point Presentation
  • Have a list of materials that I will need for the presentation
  • Ask who will come with me from Blue Revolution, do another meeting next week maybe and see who comes?
  • Get the sticker done before the presentation? Sell them to the people after the presentation.
Overall the meeting went by fast and we also discussed about asking FECOP if there was generic name for the big fish such as (sail fish, sword fish, marlin, etc.) that way the NO MARLIN ON MENU sticker has the generic name instead of marlin because the other species of fish are also endangered. And ask FECOP to give us sticker to give out to the restaurants around the area. But before that do a presentation about responsible restaurants in a local restaurant and invite other restaurants and explain the NO MARLIN ON MENU idea and see which of them decide to join with the idea.
Well that was it. I hope I get some more action with this project because lately it has been feeling kind of boring. One of my other goals is to defined better what Blue Revolution is and it's goals.
I'll be working on the about me section so look it soon!

The Stickers

Well good news!!!
I went with Jake (unfortunately Pascal couldn't come with us) to Grafika last Thursday to learn more about the process of making stickers. The good news is that it is possible, the not so good news is that I haven't heard from them yet, but I just need to be patient. I learned that the first time making stickers is more expensive because there are some cost to cover such as making the art into digital art and a custom shape for the sticker, other than that we have a good deal to make the stickers. That is all good news, but I haven't heard from Pascal yet or Grafika about the formal quote. Once I hear from both of them I can make a final decision. I'm giving them a week, if I don't hear from them by Thursday I will contact them.

Another thing I want to do is get the Blue Revolution Crew together again. I'm planning in sending an email to everybody soon so we can hopefully meet next Tuesday like before. But before that Pascal and I need to discuss the shorter version of the power point that we will hopefully present at the end of March (with the crew) to the Villareal or Cartagena Colegio with CEPIA.

Many exciting things for the next coming month! Hopefully everything will flow smoothly! :)
Next entire will hopefully be about the meeting with the crew, yay!

P.s. I will try to say hopefully less time on my next entire :)

Weekly update

I'm really excited! My meeting with Pascal last week was great!
Hopefully on Thursday I will go with my two mentors Jake and Pascal to digitalize the logos that I made for Blue Revolution! I'm sooo excited about it :) Also Pascal and I will be working on shortening the power point presentation that Enrique Ramirez from FECOPT gave us, that way it's more precise and doesn't bore our audience.
Hope to hear more about the stickers soon!

6th grade forum

Well today I went to the 6th grade class from our school and talk to them about blue revolution and the importance of responsible fishing. I was very nervous and had been practicing what I was going to say for the entire weekend. But I feel really disappointed with myself. I made it interactive, I asked the kids questions and they were excited to answer them. And I also gave them a lot of facts for example I focused on three different species of fish: yellow fin tuna, red snapper and blue marlin. For each species I told them the age that they reach, the amount legs they lay, the amount of mercury they have, their size and whey they are fished. But I still feel unsatisfied. Even thought I manage to explain to them that middle age fish are the best to catch because the have already reproduce a couple of time and don't contain as much mercury, which was I topic I was strongly with and didn't know how to explain to others. I think that next time I need to connect more with my audience, have them feel that they are the teachers also and show more statics and facts from the power point that Enrique Ramirez from FECOP gave us.

The lesson of the day is that everyone learns form their experience and now that I have done two forums, one with help and the other one on my own, I have many ideas to improve. I'll hope that the next one is even better!

Next post will be about my meeting with my mentor Pascal on Wednesday! I hope we can catch up and I can tell him all the ideas that I have a show him the sketches from the two logos.

Bye for now :)

P.S. I will have the Spanish translation soon!
